The property of border-collapse is used to collapse the space between cells of a table. The initial value is to have the cells of the table as separate.

Depending on the default values for the user agent, or browser, the cells of a table have borders that are separate from the other cells. This gives an appearance of double thickness for the border of the inside cells as shown below:

       
       
       

The spacing between the cells of a table can also be widened with the property of border-spacing.

If the property of border-collapse is set to the value of collapse, these double borders become a single border as shown below.
